The Dutch Senate has given the green light to creating a State Commission to examine the functioning of the parliamentary system. The House of Representatives is to speak its mind over the plan. The Commission must examine whether the current bicameral system is future-proof. The Commission may advise to abolish the Senate and transfer tasks to the Council of State when it comes up with proposals to modernize the system. However, Parliament may put these recommendations aside.
