According to confidential reports, the Council for the Judiciary in the Netherlands fears that the country will have a shortage of 227 judges in the coming two years. This is a substantial number considering that there are 2,360 judges currently on the bench.

It is not possible to train judges quickly enough to fill the the vacancies, in large part because there are not enough good candidates.

The Council for the Judiciary states that it is looking into the capacity needs and that the shortage mentioned in the reports is not certain.
