Death threats have been received by German MP Cem Ozdemir, who is of Turkish origin, following Germany's recognition of the 1915 massacre of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as genocide. The vote caused Turkey to recall its ambassador from Berlin and sent Turkish politicians into a frenzy. President Erdogan criticized the 11 German MPs of Turkish origin, asking, "What sort of Turks are they?” In a tweet with their pictures, Ankara's mayor called them backstabbers. Armenians say some 1.5 million of their people were murdered in 1915, but Turkey says the toll was lower and rejects the term "genocide."
