Media freedom around the world is at its lowest level in at least a decade, a new study shows. Journalists are increasingly under threat from government censorship, organised crime and commercial pressures. The report, by freedom of expression group Article 19, found that Turkey has experienced the biggest decline in freedom of speech, but several EU countries, including Poland and Hungary, have also seen uncomfortable declines in press freedom over the last decade. The authors noted that 'freedom of expression is under attack in democracies as well as authoritarian regimes'.
