Three new decrees concerning prison life, prison work and juvenile detention facilities in Italy are the shredded and faded version of what was hoped for. In particular, it is striking that in the final version of one of the measures, the words “also by photographic evidence” have been removed in referring to the ways doctors should report the conditions of prisoners in their medical reports. Written descriptions of prisoners’ medical conditions may be open to interpretation, while words and images together give a better overview.
