A new report published by Amnesty International, “Pushed to the Edge: Violence And Abuse Against Refugees And Migrants Along The Balkans Route”, says European states are “complicit in the systematic, unlawful and frequently violent pushbacks and collective expulsions of thousands of asylum seekers to squalid and unsafe refugee camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” Amnesty denounces European governments for “turning a blind eye” on police brutality in Croatia and points to the EU’s lack of spending on humanitarian assistance “dwarfed by the funds” allocated to border security.
