Several children's rights organizations have called for legislation that ensures a residence permit for migrant children who have been in the Netherlands for over five years. Defence for Children, UNICEF and Save the Children say that many children live in fear and uncertainty. The Children's Pardon in 2013 did not offer a sufficient solution. "92 percent of the children that appeal to the Children's Pardon get rejected, despite the fact that they have been living in the Netherlands for over five years after they applied for a residence permit," note the groups. A petition has been started.
