The UN special rapporteur on the right to health published a report on prevention of child mortality. Some 6.3 million children under 5 years of age died in 2013, mostly from preventable causes and treatable diseases, the report states. Although child mortality rates have declined significantly in recent years due to global and national commitments to child survival, they still remain unacceptably high, particularly among young children living in poverty and from marginalized groups in low-income countries.
