The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and non-governmental organizations from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia have written a report, titled "Pushed Back at the Door: Denial of Access to Asylum in Eastern EU Member States," based on on-site observations of access to asylum procedure at border crossings in EU member states in Central and Eastern Europe. The report, compiled over the last year, presents an extremely worrying picture of the region, which has responded to the biggest humanitarian crisis since the Second World War by closing its borders.
