Berlin is considering a ban on sexist advertisements in public places. The ban would target misogynist advertising that degrades women on billboards and other publicly owned ad space. The city has been testing the plan in its Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain district since 2014 and now plans to roll it out city-wide. In Europe, there are two main approaches to regulating sexist advertising: voluntary codes of conduct agreed between the government and the advertising industry; and a "positive approach" in which government agencies monitor and signal out sexist stereotypes in advertising.
