To commemorate World Refugee Day, some 40 non-governmental organizations – including Amnesty International and the German Central Council of Muslims – advertised their participation in human chains in five major cities using the slogan "Hand in Hand Against Racism." On June 18 and 19, thousands of people connected religious and community centers, refugee shelters, cultural centers and town halls in Berlin, Bochum, Hamburg, Leipzig and Munich to take a strong stand for a cosmopolitan and diverse Germany.
