The number of Roma in so-called "special schools" in the Czech Republic is still disproportionately high, the Council of Europe said while assessing the progress from a 2007 Court of Human Rights verdict that condemned the country for placing Roma children into special schools. Deputy Secretary for Roma Affairs Bunjes Ulrich said that the number of pupils in special schools in recent years is steadily decreasing, "but we'd like to see more progress in terms of Roma children—their proportion [in special schools] increased from 28.2 percent to 32.4 percent in the last year."
