The Croatian Employment Service deducts a certain amount of compensation if a professional trainee becomes ill and takes sick leave. Depending on that amount, the transportation compensation is also reduced, although the fee they receive is already lower than the minimum wage. The Croatian Youth Network says that these law provisions actually show how the state treats young people in general, but also as workers, because many of them are unemployed and don't have much choice in the labor market.
