The leaders of the world’s top economies, gathered in Italy for the G7 summit, on Friday moved to define gender equality as a human right after the US dropped its opposition. Including a reference to "human rights" in the statement G7 leaders signed marked an important change of course by the Trump administration, which had opposed wording in the statement that would commit the countries to promoting gender equality as human right. The change is seen as a big diplomatic win for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose government had been pushing for such wording.
