An alarming deterioration of human rights and an erosion of international institutions and laws are threatening the social cohesion of nations, warns UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein. In his year-end review to the U.N. Human Rights Council, the high commissioner pointed to the Colombia peace deal, which ended more than five decades of war, as a rare bright spot in an otherwise dark and troubling human rights picture. Zeid said is most shocked that his office still has access to any area of Syria.
