The UN’s Human Right Council is supposed to uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights. In reality, the countries elected by the United Nations to serve on its 2017 Human Rights Council are using arbitrary detentions and extrajudicial killings, giving death sentences for apostasy, suppressing free media and limiting freedom of speech. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, China, Iraq, Cuba, Qatar, Burundi, and Bangladesh are supposed to be the guardians keeping watch over human rights standards globally. What would you do to fix this serious malfunction of the UN body?
