The EU’s inability to stop former European Commission and European Parliament members from becoming lobbyists helped boost populist political movements across Europe, a new Transparency International report claims. The revolving door phenomenon, in which officials leave their posts to become lobbyists on the same issues they worked on, emboldened populists in the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom, among other countries. "This is an issue that really can't be ignored because it has become a lightening rod for popular discontent," Carl Dolan, director of TI's Europe office, said.
