About 30 countries are taking part in the UNHCR resettlement program. It concerns refugees who can't stay in the country in which they were received, such as single mums, minors, elderly or people in need of urgent medical care. "They are the most vulnerable refugees," UNHCR spokesperson Femke Joordens says. Worldwide, the UNHCR says, it concerns roughly 1.2 million people, whereas only 70,000 places are available. Hence, the UNCHR advocates a greater number of invitations to refugees, by among others, the Netherlands.
