Romanian journalist Feri Predescu was convicted in 2007 for criticizing Radu Mazăre, the mayor of Constanţa, on television. Following the court case, she was ordered to pay him 11,000 EUR in compensation. Now the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ruled that that sentence violated her right to free speech. The ECtHR found that Romania violated Article 10 of the Convention and forced the Romanian state to pay the journalist 14,000 EUR for material damages and 4,500 EUR for moral damages. Feri Predescu was represented at the ECtHR by APADOR-CH.
