The Spanish government sent the Citizen Security and Public Safety Bill, also known as the Anti-Protest Bill or the Gag Law, to Parliament on July 11, which will now consider it. Though the text has improved slightly since the Ministry of Interior first announced the draft legislation, it still poses serious threats to human rights, in particular the effective exercise of the rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. Rights International Spain will continue to challenge these anti-protest provisions during the process of debate and final approval of the law in Parliament.
