The Spanish government has applied to join the UN Human Rights Council in time for the November 2017 elections. In order to support its nomination, the government has presented 10 proposals for the 2018-2020 period. It is indeed surprising to see the sudden rush with which the Spanish government has submitted its nomination; surely the best way to demonstrate its commitment to this agency would be to comply with the recommendations issued by the rapporteurs, the working groups and the committees linked to the UN.
