Rights International Spain and five other national and international NGOs have sent an open letter to Spanish Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, calling on him to withdraw the bill reforming the country's abortion law.

The proposed changes to Spain’s abortion law pose a serious threat to women's sexual and reproductive health and rights, and would put the country out of step with the vast majority of EU countries and expose Spain to condemnation by international and European human rights bodies. The Spanish government should take all necessary steps to ensure that women and girls in Spain have informed and unhindered access to safe and legal abortion services in exercising of their reproductive and other human rights.
