Employers are not permitted to process health details with the help of smart bracelets (wearables) that register movements and sleeping patterns. Two businesses were rapped on the knuckles for this by the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA). They had given their employees bracelets that provided them with insight into their amount of movement. One of the employers also learned about employees' sleeping patterns. Employers are not permitted to process these data. An employer may give the bracelets as presents to employees, but may not set conditions on its use.
