In the shadow of the killing of Jan Kuciak, seven Slovak journalists received the White Crow award for defending the public good. The investigative journalists, who have reported several scandals involving politicians and affiliated entrepreneurs, received a collective White Crow award to show appreciation for a socially beneficial and brave civic act. "The White Crow is a reference to the irreplaceable value of journalistic work for society, particularly at make-or-break moments. But it is also a warning of what journalists have had to face this year” said Zuzana Wienk of Fair-Play Alliance.
