Skinheads Block Entrance to Hungary's National Elections Office

A day before Orbán's announcement that the Hungarian government is planning a referendum on the EU's refugee quotas, skinheads blocked the entrance to the National Elections Office, preventing an opposition politician from submitting his own question.

Hungarian news portal Index made an English-language video recording of the incident. Concerning the atrocity, The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union has emphasized that procedures which obstruct the majority of voters from practicing effectively their right to initiate a referendum are considered unconstitutional.

The organization has expressed its puzzlement concerning the behavior of public officials and authorities, who were passive onlookers while others, using sheer physical force, prevented some people from exercising their rights. The watchdog organization has added that it is not at all legitimate to use intentionally ill-formulated questions to hold people back from submitting their referendum question.
