EU Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly sent seven questions to the European Commission to be addressed ahead of the 15 June deadline concerning the appointment of Martin Selmayr as secretary general. In her letter to EC president Jean-Claude Juncker, O'Reilly requested "all documents" and "all legal advice" related to Selmayr's promotion, which the EU Parliament said "could be viewed as a coup-like action". Critics of Selmayr’s appointment claim there was a bridge of internal procedures.
