The head of the Romanian National Anti-Corruption Directorate, Laura Codruta Kovesi, was dismissed from her position on Monday by president Klaus Iohannis. The center-right Iohannis was against removing Kovesi when the center-left government called for it, though this time a Constitutional Court ruling obliged him to do so. Critics of the court decision say the ruling was politically motivated. Kovesi lead the Anti-Corruption Directorate since 2013, approaching the end of her second mandate next year. During her mandate, prosecutors tried a series of influential Romanian politicians.
