Legislation on self-defense in Italy might be about to be changed by a new legal proposal. The bill aims to widen the situations in which self-defense is considered a legitimate reaction to danger or aggression, but it would do so to an extent that goes far beyond what could be considered appropriate and proportional. This would eventually empower citizens to dispense justice themselves. Patrizio Gonnella, president of Antigone, spoke against this proposal to raise awareness on the dangers of adopting US-like legislation and becoming more permissive on the use and possession of weapons.
