The Mediterranean Pride, the first LGBTI Pride event of the season in Italy, was held in Naples last week. The Pride season every year commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, which were the cradle of the modern gay rights movements. The Stonewall Riots are still a topic of public discussion: there are still many countries where LGBT people are not recognized and are persecuted. LGBTI communities in Italy are now more hopeful that the Pride series will go down without any homophobic and hostile incidents, since Italy has approved the groundbreaking civil unions bill.
