MEPs' right to privacy is more important than taxpayers' right to know how their money is spent, Marc Jaeger, president of the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg said on Wednesday. Jaeger responded to a request from a group of journalists who had pressed for access to documents on the travel, daily, and staff expenses of parliamentarians. MEPs get 4,400 euros a month as a "general expenditure allowance" which they can spend without keeping any records or invoices about how the sums are spent.
