The Commission for Justice of the Belgian Parliament considered a bill known as "Potpourri IV" on November 29. The bill was brought by the government in order to reform the country's justice system. This reform could have been an opportunity to implement the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (MNP), which the UN has been asking Belgium for since 2005. But the bill does not mention the MNP, nor does it provide for the creation of an authority that complies with international authorities. The issue of torture should have been more fully taken into account during this reform.
