Poland’s conservative populist government has passed a controversial reform of the Supreme Court, just a day after the European Commission's call for the vote to be suspended. The bill passed with the support of 235 MPs, while 192 voted against it. The reform was passed despite the EC's threat of sanctions and possible Article 7 proceedings. The bill that was passed included a few changes compared to earlier drafts, dedicating more power to the president and less to the justice minister. Liberties and our members are strongly opposed to the law.
