A controversial bill restricting abortion has been pushed through the Sejm by Poland's ruling Law and Justice Party. Poland already had one of the most restrictive regulations in Europe, but the new bill further limits access to emergency contraception. Once the bill is passed by the upper house, the "morning-after pill" will only be available by prescription – a decision the government says gives the opportunity to check women’s heath beforehand. Women’s rights groups met the law with outrage, arguing that emergency contraception is safe and the bill seeks to deny women options.
