Parents will get the opportunity, even retrospectively, to register their stillborn child in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP), which has the personal details of everyone in the Netherlands. Parents can already issue a special certificate at the civil registry for a stillborn child. With the new regulations, it will also become possible to issue a birth certificate. There was a lot of lobbying for this decision. Initiators called the registrations not only recognition of the existence of the children, but also the children's rights.
