Over 100 civil society organizations have appealed to the European Commission to refer Poland's law on the Supreme Court to the EU Court of Justice. Under the law, nearly 40% of Supreme Court judges can be forced into early retirement. The Act significantly limits the independence of the judiciary in Poland, which was emphasized in the opinion issued by the Venice Commission. "The judgment of the CJEU is a real way to stop the process of destroying the rule of law and making the judiciary dependent on politicians," emphasize the signatories of the appeal to the European Commission.
