Croatian fathers still rarely use paternity leave during the first six months of their child's life. Last year, only about two out of every 1,000 fathers used this possibility, according to youth organization Status M, which advocates the necessity of promoting active fatherhood on the legal, institutional, social and family level. The report of Croatia's gender equality ombudswomen for 2016 highlights some statistics related to fathers' involvement in the lives of their children, including that only 158 fathers used paternity leave, and only 1,930 took any parental leave at all.
