Bavaria has opened a first special camp for asylum seekers from the Balkans, which aims to accelerate their expulsion. Applications for asylum will only get summary reviews and people have extremely limited access to legal counsel. Nevertheless, minorities from the Balkans often do have important reasons to seek international protection. "The current arrival statistics show that expulsion centers are neither useful nor necessary," says the Bavarian Refugee Council. Bavaria is creating these dissuasive measures at the expense of individual fates and is wasting desperately needed resources.
