In Italy, almost 20,000 minors live in formal and informal Roma settlements in conditions of absolute poverty. The report found that a child who is raised in these conditions has almost no possibility to access university, and only 1 percent of them go to high school. One out of every five will never attend school at all. When the informal settlements are cleared by the authorities, it's often the case that children stop going to school. Not all clearances are enforced clearances, but there must be safeguards to protect the dignity of each person and an alternative housing solution.
