More than 40 associations and NGOs have called on Germany to overcome its blockade against the new Equal Treatment Directive. The planned directive aims to protect against discrimination based on age, sexual orientation, religion or belief and disability. Germany is the only country blocking a better protection against discrimination for the whole of Europe, although a comparatively small number of changes would be necessary in Germany, as the German General Equal Treatment Act ensures protection in labor law and civil law since 2006.
