It is very difficult for civil society to make itself understood by the media! Or, more probably, the media sometimes hears what it wants to hear from civil society. Antigone recently presented its annual report on Italian prisons, affirming that prison conditions have improved and that the number of foreign prisoners is decreasing. How did the Italian media portray this news? "Prisons are at the dawn of indecency" was the headline of the daily Il Fatto Quotidiano, while La Repubblica exclaimed, "More migrants in prisons," thus validating a campaign against immigration.
