Not only should it be legally allowed for a child to have more than two parents, there should also exist legislation for surrogate mothers, according to the State Commission for Reassessment of Parenthood. The new legislation is supposed to provide the child with legal certainty about its parents, nationality and name from birth on. Surrogate mothers and those wishing to become parents need certainty about their position and responsibility. In addition, a child should also be able to trace its origins. Due to a lack of legislation a lot of Dutch people wanting to become parents go abroad.
