The Lithuanian Equal Opportunities Ombudsman's Office drew severe criticism from the UN CEDAW for "limited effectiveness and lack of visibility," as well as for the delay in appointing a new ombudsperson. The Lithuanian Parliament was unable to appoint a new ombudsperson from the end of 2013, with the candidacy of one expert on non-discrimination being rejected in 2014 due to MPs' homophobia. Agneta Lobačevskytė, who was appointed to the position in June 2015, mentioned that she had not previously worked in the field of human rights.
