During a debate on April 7 on the EU-Turkey migration deal, Civil Liberties MEPs stressed the need to respect international law and live up to EU standards. The MEPs asked the Commission about the conditions in Greek reception facilities, the number and background of staff carrying out asylum interviews, and about returns and conditions for refugees in Turkey. Once irregular crossings from Turkey have been substantively reduced, the Voluntary Humanitarian Admission Scheme will begin. The deal also opened up the possibility of faster visa procedures for Turkish citizens traveling to the EU.
