Media freedom is under threat globally, including in established democracies that have long been respected for their freedom of the press, Reporters Without Borders says. The organization's latest annual report finds that even "model" democracies are losing sight of their core values in this "new era of post-truth." The Nordic countries topped the 2017 world ranking, with Norway earning top honors, followed by Sweden and Finland. European countries accounted for eight of the top 10 spots in the ranking.
