This October saw the launch of 'Month in a Wheelchair', a social experiment in Lithuania. The project aims to bring about much needed changes in Lithuanian society, including people’s attitudes towards the disabled (who make up 10% of the population) and accessibility. In the course of the experiment, it was discovered that some shops, public transportation and facilities in Vilnius were not accessible to the disabled. Bystanders' responses to appeals for help were also mixed – some acted without hesitation, while others just wrung their hands and said 'sorry'.
