Gabriela Knaul, UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers

Rights International Spain and the three main associations of judges in the country have sent a letter to the UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, asking her to intervene and visit the country. The main concerns noted in the letter are: the reform of the General Council of the Judiciary; the new Law on the Judiciary; the political interferences while judges are performing their duties; and the lack of resources to prosecute corruption crimes (Spain's investment in justice is among the lowest in Europe).
