A parliamentary commission to look into migrant detention centers in Italy met for the first time on March 26. The commission was formally established last November, with the task of investigating conditions inside Italy's detention centers for asylum seekers. "The commission makes Italy more reliable for the whole of Europe," said Democratic MP Khalid Chaouki, who strongly advocated for the panel's creation and hopes that it will help bring the country's detention centers up to European standards.
