The Italian ambassador in Egypt, Maurizio Massari, left Cairo on Sunday to return to Rome. Italian authorities took this measure after the unsatisfactory meeting last week with Egyptian investigators in charge of the inquiry into the death of Giulio Regeni. The young researcher's body was found mutilated in Egypt in February 3, and Egyptian maneuvering has prevented any proper inquiry by Italy. There are strong suspicions that Egyptian officials had a part in the torture and the murder of the young man. Italy is still seeking truth and justice for Giulio Regeni.
