The far-right MEP Gianluca Buonanno has been fined €12,000 and ordered to publish in a newspaper the judgment of the court of Milan. The associations ASGI and NAGA, which have been closely following the case, welcomed the news. Last year, during the popular television show "Piazza Pulita," Buonanno made discriminatory comments by calling Roma “the dregs of the society” four times. He refused to apologize. The judge decided that such action is not covered by parliamentary immunity, as his statements do not reflect a political opinion but are merely a disparagement and an insult to Roma people.
