Don Ettore Cannavera, the chaplain of the juvenile prison of Sardinia and one of the most prominent figures in the Italian juvenile justice system, has resigned. His symbolic gesture, he explained, aimed to draw attention to the inappropriateness of the Italian prison system for minors, which is focused only on custody issues and lacks a pedagogical view. Several days ago, Pope Francis affirmed his belief that prison is totally useless for youths.
